The Keene Montessori School is home to two pre-school classrooms for children ages 3 years to 5 years. The classrooms are mixed ages because we believe that having a good balance of 3, 4 and 5 year olds creates an atmosphere where children will help each other. The older children gain confidence in being a leader to the younger children as they teach the younger ones.

Our classrooms are developed for the child. Tables and chairs are child-size. Shelves are low and within reach of the children. The rooms are beautiful, bright, and are engaging to the young child. We have quiet areas, and areas that are busy with activity. The children have floor mats to work on, which define their own work space.

Our Preschool classrooms cover 5 key competencies:

Practical life - Real life activates help a child to establish a sense of order, concentration, coordination, and independence. This is accomplished through activities such as pouring, squeezing, buttoning, zipping, care of plants, polishing, and table washing.

Sensorial - We work with your child to refine their senses by becoming more aware of details such as color, weight, shape, size, texture and sound

Language – By working with your child, we will develop their fine motor control for writing. We will also provide vocabulary development, pre-reading and reading skills through the use sandpaper letters, movable alphabet and metal insets.

Math – Using fun material like beads, blocks, and more your child will explore and learn mathematical concepts.

Cultural – Through a variety of fun activities your child will learn about land and water, the earth, geography, maps, and the world around them. All the while, they’ll be developing an awareness and an appreciation of other cultures.
